Healthy School Award 2008
At Heaton Avenue we are very pleased to have achieved the National Healthy School Award. We are very pleased to announce that on Tuesday 11 March 2008 we were successful in achieving the
Gold Standard
We would like to say a big thank you to all children, parents and staff involved and a special thank you to the Healthy School Coordinator: Mrs Linda Horn.
In August 2008 we were also awarded the Kirklees Schools Healthy Choice Award - Gold Award. Congratulations to the staff who work so hard in our kitchen to deliver such healthy school dinners.

· Procedures in place to support pupils in transition – Foundation Unit half day visits, full day middle school visits, sports events at middle school, Whitcliffe Mount students running clubs/class lessons.
· Special Educational Needs supported.
· All children have access to water bottles.
· Healthy food and healthy choices, menu displayed, themed meals, displays, lunchtime staff proactively encouraging healthy choices.
· Have a whole school food policy.
· Healthy eating/5 a day promoted in lessons. Cooking/theme days relating to healthy eating.
· No sweets given as rewards.
· Pleasant eating area created – hall displays and consistent encouragement to keep tidy.
· Staff and pupils consulted about their preferred healthy options.
· Achieved Active Mark.
· All children spend 120 minutes P.E. curriculum time .
· Children encouraged to take part in structured physical activity at play/lunchtimes and after school clubs, wake up and shake up.
· Awareness raised about community clubs.
· Staff have training on P.E. – inset/coaches in school.
· Participate in ‘Walk to School’ weeks .
· Have a whole school Physical Activity policy.
· Consults children about physical activity opportunities – discuss preferred activities at lunchtime, monitor popularity of after school clubs.
· The school encourages staff to undertake physical activity.
